SENER, together with MMEC Mannesmann, has been awarded a major turnkey (EPC) contract for a gas cogeneration plant (CHP Plant – Combined Heat & Power Plant) at the Scholven/Gelsenkirchen thermal power plant.
In addition, as part of the scope of the contract, Sener and MMEC will be responsible for the design, supply, installation, commissioning and start-up of the main equipment, as well as the necessary associated equipment and services (electrical equipment, instrumentation and control system, civil works, auxiliary equipment).
MMYPEM‘s scope consists of the assembly of two gas turbines model SGT-800 and one steam turbine model SST-300, both SIEMENS with their corresponding generators. The process also includes the assembly of equipment, piping and BOP supports.
The creation of the plant is part of Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH’s strategy to reduce and replace coal consumption in the plant’s operations in the short term, and to eventually completely eliminate in the medium term, the use of coal as a fuel in the plant.
Construction work began in March, and the lifting of both gas turbines has already been completed.
